Mulo Francel ist Saxophonist und Weltenbummler. Darüber hinaus bekannt als kreativer Wirbelwind des Ensembles Quadro Nuevo. Seit vielen Jahren bereist er spielend die Länder dieser Erde. Von den Alpen über das indische Bangalore bis Buenos Aires.
Mulo Francel is a saxophonist and globetrotter. He is also reknowed as the creative whirlwind of the European ensemble Quadro Nuevo. For many years, he has traveled across the globe performing music, from the Bavarian Alps to Bangalore and Buenos Aires.

In Rami Attallah aus Kairo/Ägypten hat Mulo Francel einen kongenialen Partner gefunden, der äußerst geschmackvoll und rhythmisch hoch-inspiriert agiert. Sein Klavierstil ist sehr von südamerikanischer Musik und der arabesken Verzierungskunst geprägt. Derzeit tourt er durch die Metropolen der arabisch geprägten Welt zwischen Assuan, Beirut, Dubai, Riad und Maskat.

Attallah steht familiär in einer langen Musik-Tradition. Bereits sein Großvater war Jazz-orientierter Schlagzeuger und begleitete Louis Armstrong auf dessen Afrika-Tournee.

Gemeinsam spielten Francel und Attallah bereits zahlreiche Konzerte in Ägypten und Europa und haben immer großen Spaß am musizieren. Sie verstehen sich auch als Brückenbauer hinweg über ethnische, religiöse und politische Grenzen. 

Rami Attallah sagt zum Album-Projekt Global Players: „Unsere Gesellschaften sind weitgehend von politischen und wirtschaftlichen Interessen gesteuert. Der einzelne Mensch fühlt sich in dieser globalisierten und digitalisierten Lebenswelt oft ohnmächtig. Die Kunst, die Musik, das Spiel jedoch ermöglicht es uns, uns unabhängig davon auszudrücken und als persönliche Individuen miteinander in Austausch zu treten.“

Zu ihrem gemeinsamen Repertoire steuern Francel und Attallah neue Eigenkompositionen bei. Energetisch-eleganter Jazz trifft hier auf Latin Music und feingliedrig aufeinander hörendes Balladen-Spiel wie in Personal Hero und Open Questions.

Zu Beginn des Albums wird Miles Davis‘ Nardis als subtil orientalisch groovende Nocturne interpretiert.

Francel erzählt: „Nach meinem Abitur reiste ich durch das Land am Nil. Seither fasziniert mich ägyptische Kultur und Lebensweise. Wenn ich dann über hypnotisch getrommelte Songs wie Ramis El Mahrousa improvisieren darf bin ich im Glück.“

Mit seinem Jugendfreund Didi Lowka am Kontrabass gründete Mulo Francel 1996 Quadro Nuevo. Unzählige Orte haben die abenteuerlustigen Musiker seither gemeinsam bereist, verwegene Spielweisen ausgelotet und sich damit zweimal den ECHO und mehrfach den Deutschen Jazz Award geholt.

Robert Kainar gilt als ein funkensprühender Drummer der österreichischen Szene und leitet jährlich das Musik-Ensemble des Schauspiels Jedermann in Salzburg.

Schlagzeuger Stephan Ehmig kommt aus der Musikszene um Hannover. Er bereichert die Gruppe mit seiner mal feinfühlig-bunten und mal dynamischen Trommel-Kunst.

In Rami Attallah from Cairo (Egypt) Mulo Francel has found a congenial master who is both highly tasteful and rhythmically inspired. Rami’s piano style is deeply influenced by South American music and the arabesque art of ornamentation. Currently, he is touring major cities of the Arab world between Aswan, Beirut, Dubai, Riyadh and Muscat.

Rami Attallah comes from a family with a rich musical heritage. His grandfather was a jazz-oriented drummer who accompanied Louis Armstrong on his African tour.

Francel and Attallah have performed numerous concerts together in Egypt and Europe, always enjoying the experience of making music together. They also see themselves as bridge-builders across ethnic, religious and political boundaries.

Regarding the "Global Players" album project, Rami Attallah states: “Our societies are largely controlled by political and economic interests. The individual often feels powerless in this globalized and digitalized world. Art, music and play, however, allow us to express ourselves independently of this and to connect with each other as human beings.”

Francel and Attallah contribute new original compositions to their joint repertoire. Energetic, elegant jazz meets Latin music and delicate ballad playing, as heard in pieces like "Personal Hero" and "Open Questions." The album opens with a subtle, oriental grooving interpretation of Miles Davis’ "Nardis," evoking a nocturnal mood.

Francel explains: “After high school, I traveled along the Nile. Egyptian culture and way of life have fascinated me ever since. When I improvise on hypnotic, rhythmically driven songs like Rami’s 'El Mahrousa', I feel truly fortunate.”

In 1996, Mulo Francel founded Quadro Nuevo with his childhood friend Didi Lowka on double bass. Since then, the adventurous ensemble has traveled extensively, exploring daring musical styles, winning the ECHO award twice, and receiving the German Jazz Award multiple times.

Robert Kainar is considered one of Austria’s most dynamic drummers and leads the music ensemble for the annual Salzburg play "Jedermann".

Drummer Stephan Ehmig hails from the Hanover music scene and enriches the group with his versatile drumming - sometimes sensitive and colorful, other times lively and sparkling.
